What is the eCO2 laser?

The eCO2 laser is an ablative laser, meaning that the heat it generates ‘ablates’ or ‘vaporises’ the skin, removing it until a certain depth. The eCO2 laser is used in surgical mode or in fractional mode. 

Fractional ablative eCO2

The lasers only treat skin micro-columns, sparing the skin between these columns (that are not being damaged). This untreated surrounding skin promotes a much faster recovery with fewer risks of complications in comparison with full ablative lasers. The treated skin columns experience enough ‘laser injury’ to stimulate the production of new collagen. The new collagen formation will continue over the next 3 to 6 months, which means that the skin will continue to improve in these few months after treatment.
The result is a renewed, younger skin with a better texture, a smoother surface, less wrinkles, less scars and less skin laxity.

Is the eCO2 laser painful?

A fractional ablative eCO2 laser treatment is painful and needs pain management with painkillers and local anaesthesia (numbing cream or injections).

How do I look after the treatment?

There’s is an important downtime after a fractional eCO2 treatment of 5-7 days of redness, swelling and crusts, the redness can persist for 2-3 weeks.
During a prior consultation, downtime, possible side effects, treatment preparation and proper aftercare will be discussed.

When do I see the results?

Results become visible after 3 to 6 months.

Alternative treatments

Microneedling RadioFrequency (MRF). Genius microneedling RF or the Total Skin Solution (combined use in the same session of Genius MRF and Ultra laser), are newer technologies and have less downtime compared with fractional CO2 lasers.
