Acne scars can affect self esteem and life quality of life of patients. However, a very significant improvement can be achieved using adequate treatments.

Acne scars

There are different types of acne scars depending on whether there is a loss of collagen (atrophic scars) or an increase in collagen (hypertrophic scars or keloid). Most acne scars are atrophic and can be divided into 3 groups: ‘icepick’, ‘boxcar’ and ‘rolling’ scars.
Except of the atrophy, acne scars can have different colours; they can be skin coloured, red or brown and also this will influence treatment choice.

There is not just one single effective therapy for the treatment of acne scars, to be most effective we need to combine different treatments to address all aspects of the scars.

The complete disappearance of the scars is not always possible. However, with the right techniques and combinations, a very significant improvement can be achieved. Depending on the type and depth of the scars, multiple treatment sessions can be required to achieve desired results.

Marks from acne and superficial acne scars are treated with peels, vascular or pigment lasers and laser resurfacing with LaseMD Ultra.

For deeper and atrophic acne scars we will add surgical procedures (punch excisions and subcisions), TCA Cross and  Genius microneedling RF treatments. It is also possible to inject hyaluronic acid fillers to fill atrophic scars.
